Talent Programme Assessment - 6th September
Old Georgians Hockey Club is an England Hockey Talent Accredited Club, recognising the quality of the talent development environment and opportunities we provide for young players.
Our NextGen Talent Programme is an eight-week development programme for ambitious players in Years 7 - 11 who are looking to challenge themselves, develop their game and work towards future County or Talent Academy assessments.
The programme is open to boys and girls, including both outfield players and goalkeepers. Players from OGHC and other clubs are welcome to attend.
Assessment Day
Sunday 6th September
11:00 - 13:00

Open to players in Years 7 - 11
Outfield players and goalkeepers welcome
Assessment fee: £20
Players will be notified of the outcome on Thursday 10th September, via the email that you used for booking
What will players be assessed on?
The assessment isn’t simply about technical ability. Players will be assessed across England Hockey’s ‘Complete Player Qualities’:
Game Understanding: decision-making, awareness and making effective choices within the game.
Highly Skilled Actions: the ability to perform the skills and actions required to play effectively.
Physical Capabilities: qualities including speed, endurance & agility.
Mental Skills: attitude, motivation, resilience and a willingness to learn and challenge themselves.
Teamship Skills: communication, teamwork and contributing positively to the group.
The assessment is about identifying players with the potential and attitude to benefit from the additional challenge and development opportunities. It won’t be solely based on their current ability.
NextGen Talent Programme
Successful players will be invited to join an eight-week development block:
8 sessions from Thursday 24th September - Thursday 26th November (no sessions on 22nd / 29th October due to half-term)
18:30 - 20:00
Programme cost: £120
Goalkeepers with their own GK kit: £80
The programme will be led by Director of Junior Hockey, Ian Sloan. Ian is a former Team GB Olympian, who is also Assistant Coach of the OGHC Men’s 1st Team and a Coach Developer for England Hockey.
The programme provides additional high-quality development alongside a player’s regular club hockey, with a focus on supporting players with aspirations to play representative hockey (County, Talent Academy, England).
Three Opportunities During the Season
NextGen Talent Programme will run as three 8-week blocks across the year, with one block in each school term.
An assessment will take place before each block, giving players three opportunities during the season to be considered for the programme.
